Private sellers only. You may list up to 4 cars a year. Above that most states treat you as an unlicensed dealer — the cap keeps you on the right side of it.
On the dashboard by the windscreen, or the driver's door jamb. We check it before looking anything up.

Or list without a VIN

Include the odometer, all four corners, the interior, and the engine bay. Buyers skip listings without them.
